Learn to draw the bass clef (F clef) correctly — the essential symbol for low-register instruments including cello, bass, bassoon, trombone and piano left hand.
The bass clef (F clef) is the second most common clef in Western music. Pianists read it with their left hand; cellists, bassists, bassoonists, trombonists and tuba players read it exclusively. Drawing it correctly signals competence.
Start by placing a small dot on the fourth line from the bottom — this is the F line. The two dots of the bass clef surround this line.
From slightly above the top line, draw a large backwards-C curve that descends through the staff and curves back up to about the second line from the bottom.
Place the second dot to the right of the first one, also on the fourth line. The two dots must be symmetrical.
Draw 10 bass clefs daily on dedicated bass clef practice paper until it becomes automatic muscle memory.
